Shelomo
Alfassa was filmed at the Center for Jewish History
by CUNY TV, channel 75, a cable channel serving the five
boroughs of New York City with educational, cultural and
public affairs programs. The topic was 'Hispanic Jews'
in New York City. The discussion spoke of the once 25,000
Spanish speaking Jews that came from the Balkans, Ottoman
Greece and Turkey to America in the early 20th century.
Alfassa advised the interviewer that the first Department
of Hispanics was founded at Columbia University by a Sephardic
Jew from Turkey and other little-known facts.
As
part of The City
University of New York, CUNY TV operates as a
non-commercial station. Its mission is to extend the academic
and intellectual richness of the University beyond the
campuses and to offer New York City residents a haven
for life long learning experiences through television.
